Food!!!

Darn computer deleted my previous entry about walking!  Guess we’ll have to talk about food then! =)

I love food.  I cannot exactly pinpoint my uber-favorite(s)…it’s just too many to mention!  The reasons why I’m overweight are generally two-fold: I overeat and I don’t move.  I’m also an emotional eater—-my favorite would depend on what I am feeling or would depend on the mood…are you too?

Anyway, here are some of my favorites and I’m still eating them…in small portions or moderately though. =)

The Dinuguan - I’ve tasted the Ilonggo and the Cebuano variety.  The Ilonggo kind rocks!  However, the Cebuano variety (or way of cooking, that is, full of ginger!!) also has a home in my heart.  This picture was one of the rare moments that I’ve eaten rice for about a month now…this dinuguan was from Maam Coco’s kitchen (the best dinuguan in Dumaguete—-for me). Hehehe I remember buying dinuguan for lunch at Manang Alit’s down at Bakyas, Bacolod City…I wonder if her store still exists…

Adobong Manok - Need I explain more how adobong manok captivated not only the Filipinos but also foreigners?  I had this favorite YouTube video of I-forgot-the-expats-name demonstrating how to cook adobo in perfect grammar Tagalog…beats my Tagalog. Hehehehe

Pizza - hahahaha!!! this one’s a bad picture of a bad pizza but nevertheless—-pizza!!! It’s basically complete with all the food groups in it (health buffs would hit my head with a frying pan with this hahaha) but I don’t recommend eating pizza all the time!!  My favorite pizza places——Da Vinci’s in Cebu, Rafaelli’s Fratelli (also in Cebu), Hayahay and Neva’s (the cheapest pizza ever!!) in Dumaguete….nothing much in Bacolod though.

Malasadong Egg + Rice Concoction - the best breakfast combo ever!  Just add in anything you want…a staple in my diet hahahaha!!! Too much of it is a bad thing though…

More to come along the way…some pics of what I’m eating (although I’m on a diet)…no wonder it has been slow progress hahahahaha!

Free (Pig) Brains! *Burp*

The Update…..

First weigh-in: 86.1 kg (189.42 lbs)…..today’s weigh in: 83 kg (182.6 lbs)—-and already 5 weeks into the “program.” Lost about 7lbs (so, about 1 lb/week)….yahooo!!!

Monday up to Tuesday

I have not recorded what I have eaten since Monday since I was so busy breaking my own record(s).  First, I admitted 13 patients….now if you’re in Surgery, that’s too much in a day wherein you’re the only surgical resident-on-duty.  I had 2 stat operations that night (I’m so sorry Tinoy and Erni hehehe).  My last admission though was a bit satisfying for me since I diagnosed Epiglottitis (don’t even bother comprehending this, just read hehe) clinically!  For breakfast, I had my usual Chuckie milk and the Maam Amy tuna bread (argh, pictures to follow na lang)..

Then, I have to assist in a Total Thyroidectomy which lasted for 4 hours performed by a surgeon who usually does it 1 hour tops (dang that thyroid had to be so adherent! I thought I was going to break the patient’s mandible by retracting!!)…so by noontime, I was really really tempted to down Dr. JAO’s usual fare from JP’s (aaah!! JP’s is actually “pig-out” heaven for the carnivore!! and free food!!!) instead, I ate 1/2 cup rice, sinugbang baboy and inutukang baboy (pig’s brain!! YUMMY!!!!).  Of course, the OR staff are Coke-loving people but again, I won the battle of Coke vs Me =) I promise to braver the next time and take pictures of what I was eating hehehe

By 2pm I was so sleepy my legs were shaking and my knees were on fire from all the standing up.  But hey, nothing beats free food from birthday celebrants!!  It was the joint birthday celebration of Maam Coco and Alnen, 2 of my favorite nurses at the Surgical/OB Ward.  Maaaaan…must I always suffer and deprive myself of such treats??? NO!!!! I ate bananacue, spaghetti (with heaps and heaps of cheese! It’s the Pinoy variety and I loved it!!) and the to-die-for Maam Coco banana cake (it is the devil! Just thinking about the right mixture of pineapple and banana in that cake makes me salivate.) Of course, I resisted the chocolate cake and it’s very, very, very moist (yes, moist, as in Barry White “moist” hehehe) icing that drips on all sides with little sprinkles in it.  While eating, Tinoy (I’m sorry I have to talk about him all the time, after all, we’re in this diet together) at first resisted the spaghetti…after eating my “portion,” he just grabbed some fork and finished it up…shocking!

This is the actual picture of the spaghetti while still in Maam Coco’s house…

Some of the 2nd floor staff after devouring the food (gone in 60 seconds!) with the birthday celebrants (note the chocolate cake in Maam Abby’s plate):

So I went home by 5:30 pm and saw my bed as an oasis in the middle of the dessert…so goodbye walking at the Oval!

Wednesday, er, Today

The weigh-in! See notes above!

But before that…it was my first time to walk-jog in the morning.  I’m not much of a morning person (though I’m only seldom late at work) and if I have my way, I want to report to work the earliest at 9am.  I woke up at 5:30 am (I slept at 7pm the night prior hehehe!) and decided to lace up my sneaks and go for a walk-jog quickie (45 minutes today).  Entered the SU campus, passed by the Oriental Hall and Nursing Bldg and then in front of the SU church…went out of the campus and walked on the sidewalk of North Road up to Daro….whew!!

My “team mates” in the weight loss arena have lost so much…Dr. CPG (from 117 kg to 110 kg) and Tinoy (from 85 kg to 80 kg—-though he has to pay the penalty for this week for gaining 700 grams!).  I am so happy with our results.  Dr. CPG used to have this belly and Tinoy always used to say that maybe later, he would inherit that belly hehehe!  Here’s a picture of them pre-diet era:

And a picture of Tinoy and I doing what we do best (until now, even if we’re on a diet):

Anyway, though I hope to win (haha, by now it’s hopeless!) I am just happy with the steady weight loss I have (despite devouring lechon skin and pig’s brains).  It’s all about portions baby!

300 grams, Friendship and Love…

Ack! only lost 300 grams on last weigh in! hahahahah!!! but hey, I didn’t get to pay the P50 fine for gaining!

Currently in Cebu and graced a wedding (congratulations Atty. Troy and Ethel Solon-Malilong!)…missed walking/jogging for 2 days again! Yes, the food was a delight! However I was so embarrassed to take pictures of what I ate last night (most of my friends still don’t know that I now blog!)…anyway, for a description of what I ate yesterday….

breakfast: 1 Chuckie (another favorite), left-over macaroni from Dining Hell (pun intended, hehe! Mac salad from the SUMC Dining Hall), egg sandwich with liver spread (and now some of you may go EEEWWW! but hey I love liver and its by-products hehe!)

Lunch was at a carinderia at Tampi prior to boarding the barge to Bato, Cebu.  Treated myself to 1 porkchop and 1/2 rice…the sun finally decided to show up and it was tempting to down a Coke but hey, I resisted! and I won! Yipee!!!!

While on the trip: ate a small bag of banana chips…

Dinner was at the CICC (Troy and Ethel’s reception): 1 pc of roasted pork ribs, 2 serving forks of carbonara, 1 roasted chicken wing and….lechon skin!!!!! Who cannot resist the lechon??? CnT lechon pa jud!!!  There were thin breadsticks with fish mousse…it was the first time I ever tasted “fish mousse”…hmmm, I hope to make it someday.  Ana kept going back for more of that fish mousse…it’s tuna made gooey hahahaha!  Thank God the desserts were pint-sized (see pic below, that’s dessert time).  You know me, I could never resist dessert…hehehe!

Anyway, it was a fun night though graced it only for a few hours (due to Ruthie’s migraine, we had to go)…it was nice seeing old friends and the ladies are looking good!  I wonder who will be up next down that aisle…

Be back in Dumaguete later and hoping to have a safe trip.  I hope I won’t be too tired to have a few rounds the beloved Oval =)

P.S. Two of my friends commented that I lost some weight!  My face is not as chubby as the previous daw…hehehe!!! Update: I weighed myself last Friday, I was 83.6 kg….

Crossing my fingers!

The 1.1

Been a busy bee last week preparing for the department’s conference!

For the past week, still skipping rice…ate a lot of fruit and walked some more.  I guess I must quantify my walking.  The 1st official weigh-in of the contest was held last Wednesday and I lost 1.1 kg.  Is that a bad start?

It’s been raining bad lately and the weather is really uncooperative.  Here are some things I learned since the past post….

  • Don’t mix oranges with apples and with pomelo (hehehe)…it tasted good for awhile but it turned really sour eventually.  Thanks for the tip Tinoy!
  • I just can’t give up coffee and the malasado egg on the rice.  So I decided to retain the coffee, get egg + rice on duty days only with 1/2 cup of rice (then run the rest of the calories later hehehe)
  • I must check out that “place” at North Road which offers “walk classes.”  I wonder what that is…it’s a dive shop/gym of some sort…
  • I must swing by the Dietary Dep’t of the hospital where I’m working at…they give out meal plans!!! Matchbox size!!! Ack!! I hope I’ll be ready when I have mine…it might turn into a 1/2 matchbox size!! NO!!!!
  • You never knew when you’re in an impromptu date already. =)  Just had one…aaaaahhh, the butterflies in my stomach!  But I should not read much into it….

I hope I could lose some extra more kgs before Wednesday…huhuhu!
